How to make construction themed Rice Krispie treats
Make Rice Krispies
In a big saucepan melt 3 tablespoons of butter on low heat then add 1 package of marshmallows (ten ounces or 283 grams). Stir the marshmallows until they are melted then remove from heat. You can use either mini marshmallows or full-sized marshmallows.
Add 6 cups of rice krispies cereal and stir until everything is well coated.
Grease a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan and then press the Rice Krispie mixture into your pan using a buttered spatula or using a sheet of wax paper to press the top flat. You can grease your pan with cooking spray, butter, or cover the bottom of your pan with wax paper and grease only the sides for best results.
Cool your treats and cut them into 2-inch squares. If you’re having trouble cutting your squares, unmold your pan and then cut them with a buttered knife.
Make candy construction vehicles
I bought a construction themed silicone candy mold from Joann for these delicious treats.
Melt Chocolate
First, melt your yellow chocolate candy melts. You can use a double boiler or a microwave-safe bowl according to the instructions on your candy melts.
I melted mine in the microwave by changing the settings to 50% power and stirring every 20 seconds to see if it was done.
If you overheat your candy melts they may burn and turn hard. If this happens, throw them out and start with a fresh bowl then use a shorter amount of time and lower setting on your microwave.
Pipe Chocolate Into Construction Vehicle Mold
Optional step: Use cocoa powder to line your construction mold with brown powder. It will give your chocolate construction vehicles a muddy look and dual-tone color. You can do this before putting chocolate in the mold.

I put the cocoa powder in the wheel areas of each mold using a new, clean paintbrush.
Pipe melted candy into your construction mold with a plastic bag or piping bag. Cut a small hole at the tip of your bag once it’s loaded with chocolate so you can control how much comes out at a time.

Use a toothpick to help spread the chocolate into every corner of the mold.
Cool And De-mold Construction Chocolate
Let your chocolate construction trucks cool completely to room temperature.

Coat Rice Krispie Treats In Chocolate
Melt white chocolate candy melts in a microwave safe glass cup or bowl. Dip your stick into the melted chocolate and then insert it into your Rice Krispie treat and allow it to cool and harden so it won’t fall off when you start dipping it.

I used bamboo skewers as sticks but I recommend using popsicle sticks, stiff paper straws, or reusable plastic straws for a larger base.

Once your sticks are set, use a cup or bowl of melted white chocolate candy melts and a spoon to coat your rice krispie treats with white chocolate. Tap off the excess chocolate then place it on a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper. Repeat the process with all your treats.
Decorate Construction Themed Rice Krispie Treats
Melt ½ a cup of yellow and black candy melts in separate microwave safe bowls. Spoon the melted candy melts into two separate piping bags or plastic bags and cut off the very tip of each bag so you can make a small, controlled drizzle.

Drizzle yellow and then black candy melts over your white chocolate covered Rice Krispie treats. You can also add a pinch of brown cocoa powder to your construction treat decorations.

Use some leftover yellow or black candy melts to secure your chocolate construction vehicles to your Rice Krispie treats. Place them near the base of the treat.

Allow your treats to cool completely and store them in an airtight container somewhere cool before your party.

Construction Treat Troubleshooting
My Rice Krispie treat keeps falling off into the melted chocolate
If you’re having a hard time coating your Rice Krispie treats in white chocolate, they may be melting from the heat.
Make sure you’ve secured your popsicle stick with some candy melt so it stays in the Rice Krispie. You can try chilling your treats in the fridge just before dipping them in chocolate.
Where do I get a construction themed candy mold?
You can find the same construction candy mold I used here at Joann.com They ship to Canada and the USA.
How do you make your construction chocolates look two-toned?
I used a new, clean paintbrush and cocoa powder to dust the wheels of my construction truck mold before I added yellow candy melts to give them a two-toned look.
How do you make the chocolate drizzle on construction treats look nice?
The yellow and black drizzle kind of looks like a hazard sign. If yours is turning out lumpy instead of thin and nice, your chocolate candy melts may not be warm enough to flow properly. It’s also possible you cut the hole in your bag too big. Try cutting a smaller hole in the corner of your bag before drizzling.
Can I use something other than Rice Krispie treats?
If you have a cakesicle mold and would prefer to use cake inside these treats instead of Rice Krispie squares, it should work the same way.

Final Thoughts on Construction-Themed Rice Krispie Treats
These construction treats taste so good they might just be my new favorite party food. They’re also easy enough to make that you can get your kids involved with making them. My kids love to help stir the melted marshmallows into the puffed rice and it’s a fun way to involve them with your party theme set up.
