Equipment

  • cupcake pan
  • cupcake liners
  • whisk
  • spoons
  • small sifter
  • two bowls
  • piping bags
  • piping tips

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • vegetable oil
  • eggs
  • water or milk
  • white icing and mini chocolate chips (or candy eyes)
  • chocolate frosting
  • powdered sugar
  • pretzels
  • whoppers

Instructions

  • Get all your ingredients together, line your cupcake tray with cupcake liners, and preheat your oven to 350 degrees. You can use chocolate cupcakes or vanilla cupcakes for this recipe as long as you have chocolate buttercream or chocolate fudge frosting for the top of each cupcake.
  • Sift your dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl or put the box cupcake mix into a bowl and set it aside.
  • Mix your wet ingredients together until your eggs, oil, water or milk and vanilla extract are blended.
  • Mix your wet and dry ingredients together until they’re just combined with no lumps - don’t over mix it. Then fill your cupcake liners ⅔ full.
  • Bake your cupcakes at 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes or until you can prick them with a toothpick and it comes back out dry.
  • Let your cupcakes fully cool to room temperature.
  • Frost cupcakes with chocolate icing in a piping bag with a star tip or your favorite piping tip. Alternatively, you could cut the tip off a plastic ziploc bag if you don’t have a piping bag at home, or smear on the chocolate icing with a butter knife or spatula. Store-bought frosting is great, or you can make it from scratch if you prefer.
  • Decorate your reindeer cupcakes. Put your pretzel antlers on top of the cupcake. Add a dab of white icing for each eye and a mini chocolate chip for each pupil. You could use black icing or melted black candy melts as an alternative for the pupil if you don't have mini chocolate chips. You could use candy eyeballs as another option.
Use a Whopper or different candy for the cupcake reindeer nose. To make snowy reindeer cupcakes, use a small sifter and some powdered sugar to gently dust the top of your decorated reindeer cupcakes with ‘snow’.
For a glowing, adorable Rudolph cupcake, use red candies. You could make a whole group of 'Rudolph cupcakes' by using a red M&M in the center of the cupcake, or a red Swedish berry candy like I did.
Voila! You have made wonderfully cute snow covered reindeer cupcakes, the perfect treat for a holiday party this Christmas. Store them in an airtight container and they’ll stay fresh for about 2-3 days maximum. If your chocolate frosting is quite wet, you might need to put a bit more powdered sugar on top right before you serve them, for a snowy look.
